Galilee
Sunrise
This is from the biblical account in John 21 when Jesus
in his resurrected body appears on the shore of the sea
of Galilee at daybreak. He calls out to his disciples who
have been unsuccessfully fishing all night, having prepared
a breakfast of fish on the fire for them. He calls them
back to their commitment to carry forth the Gospel.

Laughing
Shepherd
An ethnic Jesus laughing with joy as he firmly holds a struggling
large (teenage) sheep. This addresses the joy of evangelism--finding
the lost and struggling sheep and safely holding them.

Sarah
This
painting captures the laughter and joy of a 90 year old
woman who finally becomes pregnant. "For with God nothing
shall be impossible" (Luke 1:31). It speaks to creative
possibilities at any age.

The
High Priest
Captures
the power and awe of the presence of the Lord in the holy
of holies of the Old Testament as the high priest ministered
to the Lord. God was said to dwell between the cherubim
wings over the ark. Only the high priest could go in once
a year to atone for the sins of Israel. All others must
have only imagined the beauty and power of the Lord's presence
that no doubt was there.

The
Shepherd
Shows
a shepherd at an open gate bringing the sheep from darkness
into a place of light. Around the sides of the painting
are words from Ezekiel 34:11: "My flock was scattered
all over the surface of the earth and there was no one to
search and seek for them...I will care for my sheep and
rescue them from all the places they were scattered in the
time of clouds and darkness. I will feed my
flock and I will lead them to rest. I will seek the lost
and bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen
the sick."

The
Pleasure of Prayer
Two children are shown praying together holding hands before
the entrance of a
gate on which is the verse "Enter into his gates with
thanksgiving and into his
courts with praise" (Ps. 100:4). Mark 10:15 "Truly
I say unto you, whoever does not receive the kingdom as
a little child shall not enter it at all." The emphasis
is on peace, confidence and the simple faith of small children.

Friend
Jesus
A
contemporary image of Jesus as a warm, handsome, beckoning
friend whom one may confide in and safely trust to help
carry their burdens. "Come to me, all you who are heavy
burdened, and I will give you rest" (Mark 11:28).

Samuel
This image is inspired from an 1886 Bible, possibly illustrated
by Dore. It captures the look of joy and wonder the first
time the boy Samuel first knows that he is hearing from
God. 1 Samuel 3:10 "And Samuel said, 'Speak, for they
servant is listening.'"

The
Suffering Savior
Not
an attractive image, or a popular one, but this painting
arose from Karen's worship and reflection as she contemplated
being ordained to the Christian ministry. The current trend
in religion and spirituality is against any focus on sin,
suffering, or the need for a redeemer. However, Scripture
encourage us to "Consider him who endured such suffering
lest ye be weary and faint in your minds" (Heb. 12:3).
