When
you read the title of this booklet and saw the word "baptism,"
did you immediately think about water? If so, your response
is like that of the vast majority of Christians. But the question
we must ask is why the word "baptize," which actually
means "to dip" or "to immerse," has become
almost solely associated with water, when, biblically speaking,
there are other "liquid" alternatives to be considered?
Discovering the answer to that question will help us solve a
problem that has for centuries caused great division among dedicated
and well-meaning Christians. Our goal is to find out what is
the "one baptism" prescribed for the Church, as per
Ephesians 4:5.
The fact that most Christians throughout the centuries have
equated baptism with water is very understandable. As we will
see, water baptism was prescribed under the Mosaic Law. Jesus
himself was baptized, and many early Christians practiced water
baptism during the first years of the Church. But do the Church
Epistles, that section of Scripture specifically addressed to
believers living in the Church Administration, which began on
the Day of Pentecost and will end with the "Rapture,"
call for this practice?
Scripture shows that the old, ceremonial, outer washing in water
prescribed in the Mosaic Law for Israel pointed toward, and
has now been superseded by, the new, actual, inner cleansing
in holy spirit (the divine nature of God). The old water baptism
could not, and still cannot, change the heart of a man, but
the spirit of the Holy God can revolutionize a person from the
inside out and enable him to be like Jesus Christ, his true
baptizer.
If you have been taught the traditional doctrine of water baptism,
you may find that what you read in this booklet is more spiritually
invigorating and liberating than the belief you now hold, and
that it also opens up greater possibilities for more powerful
Christian living.

Some
4,000 years ago, Job asked, How can a mortal be righteous
before God? This question stills plagues people, many of whom
feel unworthy and unrighteous before God.
It
is true that if righteousness came by our own efforts no one would
be righteous. The Bible says what every honest person already
knows: There is not a righteous man on earth who does what
is right and never sins (Ecc. 7:20). All of us fall short
of Gods standards.
God
knows that no one can be perfect enough to earn righteousness
in His sight, and so in His grace and mercy, He gives righteousness
to Christians as a gift. The Christians righteous standing
before God is given to him, not because he does good works, but
because he has faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ paid for the
sin of mankind, and opened the doorway so that God could bless
His people with the gift of righteousness.
This
booklet shows from Scripture that each Christian is righteous
in the sight of God. Furthermore, it shows that we are righteous
before God even if we do not feel that we are. For Christians
who have felt unaccepted and unrighteous before God because of
their sin and shortcomings, this booklet offers a word of comfort.
It is indeed a blessing to know that we Christians stand in the
presence of God, right in His eyes, accepted by Him
and acceptable to Him.

A Reasonable Doubt - 23 Arguments for the Historical Validity
of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Every
day in courtrooms across the United States, juries are asked to
determine if the evidence in a criminal trial is sufficient to convict
a person "beyond a reasonable doubt." Now you can weigh
for yourself the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus
of Nazareth about 29 A.D., and judge for yourself if the Bible is
a credible document. The Bible provides evidence of an event that
is supposed to have occurred nearly 2,000 years ago. In fact, the
Christian faith and the New Testament is entirely a fraud if Jesus
of Nazareth was not really raised from the dead. If the resurrection
could be proven false, Christianity would fall to pieces and Jesus
would be found to be a lair.
But
if true, this event, above all others in the history of mankind,
provides something solid to believe in. It provides evidence of
the Messiahship of Jesus of Nazareth more powerfully than anything
that he ever said or did. Any event that claims to be historical
must satisfy certain tests of authenticity. For example, we know
that people and events were historical by the things that were
said and not said about them in their own time and the time immediately
following. Examine within these few pages the essential arguments
that demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that Jesus of Nazareth
was truly raised by God from the dead. You will then have a solid
basis for faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and with your
whole heart, soul, and mind lay hold upon the hope of eternal
life.

Defending
Dispensationalism: Standing Fast in the Liberty

In recent years, a storm of controversy has arisen around a system
of biblical interpretation called "Dispensationalism,"
which the author believes is grounded in the biblical truth that
there are only three distinct groups of human beings on earth today-Jew,
Gentile and the Church of God, also known as "the Body of Christ"
or "Christians" (1 Cor. 10:32).
There is only one God, but He gave different rules at different
times for people to live by. Dispensationalism is a way to understand
these changes, and thus to better understand the purposes of God
and how we are supposed to live today.
Every Christian is aware that God no longer requires animal
sacrifices, but few realize the radical extent of the changes
that took place at Pentecost, the birthday of the Christian Church.
Every one of the following features of Old Testament faith and
practice were altered for the Church: believing that God is the
source of all good and all bad, salvation by faithfulness, circumcision,
Sabbath laws, special days, feasts, tithing, high priests, hierarchical
leadership, special clothing for spiritual leaders, temple worship,
the Holy of Holies, water baptism, and dietary restrictions.
Opponents of Dispensationalism decry it as a heretical view
that threatens biblical integrity and weakens the historic Christian
faith, replacing it with a kind of "cheap grace." Proponents
find it to be a useful tool for the preservation of biblical integrity
and a means of harmonizing what would otherwise be contradictory
passages of Scripture. They also believe it to be "indispensable"
to understanding the greatness of the "Church Age,"
and all the blessings that have been bestowed upon the Christian
believer. Many theological arguments could be settled, and many
apparent "contradictions" resolved, if administrational
truth was more widely understood.
Defending Dispensationalism will help sincere Christian seekers
identify and lay claim to every promise made to them as members
of the unique "Body of Christ," and empower them to
"Stand fast
in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made
us free" (Gal. 5:1).

The
Death Penalty: Godly or Ungodly?

Anyone who reads a newspaper or watches the news on TV sees a daily
stream of ruthless and heartless criminals victimizing innocent
people. Our society is so full of criminals and crime that many
people have come to believe that it is normal for life to be dangerous.
We adjust to this constant danger by purchasing dead bolts and security
systems, traveling with cell phones, and carefully watching over
our children, lest we become an unfortunate victim and another statistic.
The good news is that we do not have to live in a world overrun
by evil and crime.
Certainly the world would be a better place if those committing
the heinous crimes in society were stopped. But how? The Bible has
guidelines and commands that, if followed, would make our world
a safer and more pleasant place to live. One of the biblical solutions
to violent crimes is the death penalty. In fact, according to Scripture,
it is perhaps the most important key to having a just legal system
and a safe society.
Man did not invent the death penalty. God commanded that man carry
out this form of justice so as to deter violent crimes. This short
booklet shows that the whole Word of God supports the death penalty
for crimes such as murder, kidnapping, and rape. This book also
explains the verses that are often used against the death penalty,
such as "turn the other cheek" and "overcome evil
with good." It shows that the Bible has a consistent message
from Genesis to Revelation-the death penalty is part of God's solution
to the problem of evil.
Very importantly, this book shows that the "death" penalty
actually affirms the value of life. Although many people think that
the death penalty demeans human life, the Bible says just the opposite.
It is demeaning of human life when a criminal takes a life or ruins
one by rape or kidnapping, and then "pays" for his crime
with only a moderate prison term. Such "justice" sends
the message that the life of an innocent victim is not worth much,
something that most criminals believe already. The death penalty,
on the other hand, sends the clear message that life is very valuable
indeed, and that if a person takes the life of another, the only
appropriate compensation is the criminal's own life. That is certainly
God's point of view, and He has clearly set forth in both the Old
and New Testaments that the death penalty is a necessary antidote
to the poisonous influence of evil people in human society. |
